The shiva Lingam
Shiva/Shakti is representative of the destructive/transformative force of the universe.
Shakti refers to energy and the possessor of energy.
Lord Śiva is also known as Mahākāla — the Lord of time.Lord Śiva is both destroyer and regenerator and his iconography reflects this complexity.
Shiva is thus associated both with apparent destruction and re-creation, hence association with the organ of reproduction i.e. the erect penis (Linga)
Śiva is primarily worshiped through the abstract symbol of the liṅgam — the erect penis which is shown as standing in a base which encircles and holds it — the yoni or the womb.
Many western consider vagina and the womb as Different things.
Our ancestors were not perverted like us so they considered vagina and womb as a whole (I.e the yoni)
The lingam ejaculates the seed (bīja) of the spatial universe into the yoni which is the matrix of all manifestation. Creation of all life-forms occurs through copulation, the mingling of the female ovum and male sperm. The most appropriate iconic images for this process of generation are — the Lingam and the Yoni.
Many modern Hindus, because of multiple attacks on hinduism by Christianity and Islam we have started pretending that the lingam is NOT a erect penise but rather an “abstract” form of the formless God.
Linga is therefore that which differentiates one thing from another — i.e. gender. Linga is what makes male a male and yoni a female.
Lord Śiva is the “Transformer” — for matter/energy is never destroyed, it only changes its form. Śiva is therefore both the author of disintegration and reintegration. Birth requires death, all changes entail the destruction of the previous form or state and the generation of a new one.
